    This surreal and anarchic comedy loosely took the format of a University Challenge-style quiz show, though points were more or less irrelevant.

    Hosts Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer had already brought their very, very silly work to TV audiences in the Vic Reeves Big Night out and The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer.

  • Vic and Bob have been good friends ever since they started liking each other on a permanent basis.

    Each week they invite guests to partner up with regular team captains to answer ridiculous questions. Ulrika Jonsson was a captain throughout the series, while Mark Lamarr captained from 1995-1997 and Will Self took over between 2002 and 2003.

    Johnny Vegas was a regular team member during this second burst of activity, though he remained fairly inactive himself, armed always with a pint of Guinness.

    But the defining feature of the show was the character of George Dawes (Matt Lucas), a giant baby-like man who played the drums and kept score.

    This led to the inevitable catchphrase, "What are the scores, George Dawes?"
